Dr Wenbin Zhang
Wenbin joined WorldPop as a Research Fellow in 2023. His research focuses on the quantitative analysis of geographical elements and geostatistics/spatial statistics, and their applications to a wide range of real-world challenges.
He has a BSc and MSc in Mathematics and Applied Mathematics from Chang’an University. He received his PhD in Cartography and Geographic Information Systems from the Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences. During his doctoral research, he built a novel function to measure spatial association for qualitative spatial variables, and additionally studied the impact of policy interventions and vaccine campaigns on the transmission of COVID-19 across the world.
Since joining WorldPop, his primary focus has been on developing metrics to compare outputs of the Degree of Urbanisation using different population datasets and identifying the driving factors of the uncertainties of the Degree of Urbanisation.
