New Tool Maps Progress in Child and Maternal Health Across Low- and Middle-Income Countries

WorldPop has launched an interactive web application that enables users to explore and visualize child and maternal health indicators at subnational levels across selected low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). The CMH Progress Map provides detailed geographic insights into key health metrics, socio-economic factors, and progress toward Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The tool presents multiple indicators through dynamic maps, charts, and tables, allowing users to analyze trends across different time periods and data sources. This comprehensive approach helps researchers, policymakers, and health practitioners better understand geographic variations in maternal and child health outcomes within countries.

“This application makes it easier than ever to access and visualize subnational data on critical maternal and child health indicators,” said Professor Andy Tatem, WorldPop Director at the University of Southampton, UK. “By providing this granular view, we can better identify areas that need targeted interventions and track progress over time.”

Key features of the CMH Progress Map include:

  • Interactive visualization of multiple health and development indicators
  • Subnational-level data presentation through maps, charts, and tables
  • Temporal analysis capabilities to track changes over time
  • Integration of various data sources for comprehensive analysis
  • User-friendly interface for easy navigation and data exploration

The tool is freely accessible at https://wpgp.github.io/CMH_ProgressMap/ and will continue to expand with additional countries and indicators in the future.

A demonstration video is also available on YouTube showing how to navigate and utilize the application’s features effectively: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fp3w1BOarls.

This new resource advances WorldPop’s mission to provide open access to detailed population and demographic data, supporting evidence-based decision-making in public health and development.
